ARTIST STATEMENT: When I began the semester, I was overwhelmed by the variety of everything I could make, but as I began to make my first few items, I gravitated towards the minimalist pieces. From the very beginning, I embraced a completely black-and-white glaze idea for my entire semester. I was attracted to the simple, small-necked shapes that matched the minimalist glazing that I wanted. So for my art show, it was easy to come up with an idea, and I knew that the more experience I got over the course of the semester, the better my vases would be, and I’m really happy with how my pieces turned out! I wanted the vases to be functional, but the imperfections help to add to the handmade look, and the graphic pop of black and white keeps with the simple aesthetic that is very me. I look forward to seeing where my next steps in art take me!
